King’s Hall Public Baths - originally known as Hackney Central Baths - were built in 1894-7 for Hackney Borough Council to the designs of architects Edward Harnor and Frederick Pinches. This Grade II listed building is a handsome reminder of the Victorian's civic preoccupation with the business of public cleanliness.
The building's original first class pool is still in use as a swimming pool, and a number of original features have survived 20th century modernisation, including the hammerbeam roof of the women's pool (see picture).
AHP, working for Continuum Sport and Leisure, is currently preparing a conservation statement which will inform any future changes to the building's historic fabric.
