Ironmonger Row Baths was built in 1931 and extended in 1938 for Finsbury Borough Council to the designs of leading municipal baths architects A.W.S. and K.M.B. Cross. It was listed grade II in November 2006, and is within the London Borough of Islington’s St Luke’s Conservation Area. The building is owned Islington Borough Council, and continues in its original use as a Turkish baths, public laundry and swimming pool.
AHP was commissioned to prepare a conservation plan with a view to modernising the building for future swimmers. The report traced the building’s history, set out its historic and architectural significance and provided guidelines and policies to be taken into account before any changes are made.
