Commissioned by Middlesbrough Council, AHP and Manchester-based architects Lloyd Evans Prichard recently completed a conservation plan for Middlesbrough’s town hall.
Built in 1899, the current town hall and related municipal buildings echo the neo-Gothic style of the Houses of Parliament, providing an impressive headquarters for local government in Middlesbrough.
Using primary and secondary sources in Middlesbrough and London, AHP provided an historic understanding of the town hall and assessed the significance of principal buildings. Together with Lloyd Evans Prichard, we also provided a framework of issues affecting the town hall, and a set of policies designed to minimise the impact of future development on this landmark historic building.
