Grant reviews

In 2005 AHP undertook an important review of funding for places of worship for the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF). With English Heritage, HLF has been operating a joint scheme for funding works to listed places of worship in England since 1996. The scheme has taken various forms over the years, with EH able to fund urgent repairs to grade I and II* churches and the HLF able to help varying categories of work to churches of all grades.  The purpose of the review was to tell the story of the joint scheme and to assess its impact and effectiveness.

AHP’s review sets out conclusions and recommendations which will inform the future direction of grants for churches in England after the present grant scheme comes to an end in 2007.

As increasing numbers of HLF and other grant schemes mature, we expect that the demand for impact assessments and reviews such as the above will increase.
