The Daily Express building is a unique example of a 1930s, Modernist curtain-walled building in Manchester. Constructed in phases between 1936 and 1939, its architect was Sir Owen Williams, who also designed the Daily Express buildings in London and Glasgow.
The building is Grade II* listed and is within the Ancoats conservation area. In July 2008 AHP produced an historic building appraisal for the building's managing agents.
