Buildings at risk

AHP offers help in tackling buildings at risk in two ways: firstly, by developing a strategy for local authorities, by identifying priority buildings based on the significance of the building, its condition and the potential of securing funding for repairs. Secondly, AHP works with building preservation trusts (BPTs), advising on feasibility studies for potential project buildings,  helping bring BPTs and local authorities together for particular projects, and by producing conservation management plans to inform projects and to support funding applications.

For example, for Sheffield City Council AHP produced a buildings at risk strategy and advised on individual buildings such as Loxley Valley Chapel and several cutlery workshops including Spital Hill Works, a late nineteenth century cutlery factory. Here, AHP developed a strategy to support the Council’s conservation team in tackling the site, recommending priorities and introducing a BPT.  We have written conservation management plans for several BPT projects including for Elizabeth Gaskell’s House in Manchester.
