In 2009 AHP worked with Donald Insall Associates and Chris Burnett Associates to prepare a CMP for the Grade I listed Bramall Hall, Stockport, described by Pevsner as one of the four best timber framed houses in the country. The medieval house developed around a courtyard, with the three surviving ranges probably built in the 15th century by the Davenport family. Our work included historical research and analysis of the building fabric and its decorative elements, including the 16th century window glazing, a marvellous collection of wall paintings and some interesting repairs and alterations made by Charles Nevill in the late 19th century.
AHP advised the team on issues affecting the house and stables, and contributed to management policies. The conservation management plan has now been formally adopted by Stockport Council, which plans to develop a bid to the HLF for funding.
