Planning Policy Statement 5: Planning for the Historic Environment was issued by the Government in March 2010. It replaces PPG15 and PPG16, combining national policy on archaeology and the historic built environment for England. The statement covers designated heritage assets such as listed buildings and scheduled ancient monuments and also covers non-designated assets such as Local List buildings. PPS5 emphasises the importance of understanding the significance of a heritage asset and the impact that changes will have on it, before decisions are made about new proposals. AHP has established expertise in assessing significance and the impact of change, and providing the written assessments needed as part of the listed building process.
